Providing the Freedom to Pursue your Vision

Where Attention Goes, Energy Flows

This is a Universal Principal. When you focus your attention on anything, this is where your energy also focuses. Think about it, when you were learning to parallel park, did you think “must not hit the curb, must not hit the cone, must not be too far from the curb”? Did any one of those things happen? Or do you avoid parallel parking at all costs? How about when you are driving and spot a pothole? Do you think “must not hit the pothole”? And do you? If you’re like me, if you think about it, chances are you at least drifted towards that hole. ¬†Have you noticed when you focus on how difficult a project is, the more difficult it becomes? That the more you dislike the project, the harder it becomes. We make it into this huge difficulty in our minds.

I subscribe to several keyword feeds on Twitter through One of these keywords is ‘bookkeeping’. I am amazed at the people who struggle with this task. They post about how much they dislike it, how hard it is, and how they will do anything to avoid it. Bookkeeping becomes this huge monster to be avoided in their mind.

I used to be this way about dishwashing (many years ago when my son was young). I hated doing it, disliked it with a passion and avoided doing it as long as possible. It became this huge thing. There were very few clean dishes in the house. When I stopped thinking about how much I detested washing dishes, and focused on having clean dishes to eat from, the chore became simply something that must be done. It was easy to make that shift.

Where is your energy focused? If you were to shift your focus, would that help you achieve your goals?

Next time you find yourself thinking how much you DON’T want to do something, shift your focus to how good it feels to complete it or the desired result. Or, if you really detest it, by all means, find a qualified professional to assist you!
